SHEILA BOYES IS THE NEW TEES VALLEY BADMINTON DEVELOPMENT OFFICER.
As
part of BADMINTON England’s Whole Sport Plan, a team of Development Officers
will be operating around the country, through the 45 different County Sports
Partnerships.
12
of these BDOs will be Full Time, 14 will be Part Time (20hrs per week) and the
remainder either working 1 or 2 days per week.
The
Teesside Badminton Coaches Association and the Tees Valley Sport Partnership
have worked with BADMINTON England to a secure a Part Time Officer’s post to
cover the Tees Valley.
Sheila
Boyes, who until her appointment was Secretary of the Teesside Badminton
Coaches Association and who runs Thornaby Pavilion Junior Badminton Club, has
been appointed to this role.
Sheila
started at the beginning of November.
At
the same time, Sheila also became the Badminton Community Sports Coach. This is
funded through Sport England, BADMINTON England, Yorkshire BA, Durham CBA and
local badminton organisations. This is a ‘one day per week’ position, geared to
take Badminton into Primary Schools.
The
two roles will be dovetailed to ensure that pathways are available for children
of primary school age to take up and then pursue badminton right through to
Senior Club status.
One
of the key objectives is to deliver BADMINTON England’s Key Performance Indicators
as agreed within the Whole Sport Plan.
These are: -
• Increasing participation
• Accrediting clubs to BE Silver Club & Clubmark
• Increasing the number of affiliated clubs & leagues
• Increasing membership
• Increasing the number of active coaches
• Increasing the number of volunteers
• Increasing badminton activity in schools both on the curriculum and as an
after-school club
• Increasing the number of links between schools and clubs.
In
order to assist Sheila with the task ahead, a new Tees Valley Development
Committee will be formed of all interested parties across the area..
This
Committee will assist Sheila in producing a new Development Plan. This plan
will help all parties to understand the direction badminton is taking in the
area.
It
will also allow Sheila to know that what she is doing has the full support of
the local badminton community. The Committee will be there to support Sheila
and will also help implement the Development Plan.
