BADMINTON England PESSCL PROGRAMME
BADMINTON
England School Club Links Plan - Summary.
The aim of Badminton’s School Club
Links project is to increase the proportion of children guided into clubs from
School Sport Co-ordinator (SSCo) Partnerships and to increase the number of
Accredited badminton clubs.
Badminton is very keen to be
involved in the School Club Links programme because we know that badminton can
deliver and achieve the aims of this project.
As one of the most popular participation sports in this country,
badminton can provide the desired results for a number of reasons:
- Accessibility – low cost, widespread availability
of facilities, rapid initial progress and enjoyment
- Safety – low risk of injuries
- Gender equality – equally popular with males and
females across the age range
- Lifelong activity – enjoyed by players from 8 –
80 – and beyond!
- Ethnic diversity – a sport popular amongst many
ethnic minority groups, especially from the Indian sub continent and South
East Asia
- Coaching – relatively easy to coach at
beginner/improver levels leading to a wide availability of coaches; short
time-scales required to develop existing coaches and/or educate new
coaches
- Numbers – the number of players that can be
accommodated within a given space compares favourably with most other
indoor sports.
