The 2007-8 season welcomes the
launch of the new club competition, the BADMINTON England Cup.
The Idea
The aim is to support affiliated clubs by
providing a fun and exciting competition appealing to club players which enhances
the existing competitive provision for clubs and encourages the recruitment of
more players and clubs to the BADMINTON England structure.
By year two of the competition it is hoped
that the winners will go on to represent England in the Europe Cup, which has
just been won by French team Issy Les Moulineaux.
The Format
The draw for the inaugural tournament will be made after
the entries close in November and the competition will start towards the
end of the regular club season next March
Clubs will compete on a district and
regional knockout basis with the top eight winning through to a finals weekend
at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes on June 14 and 15, 2008.
Matches between clubs will be played over
nine rubbers of one each of men's and women's singles and two men's and two
women's doubles and three mixed doubles using the 3 x 21 scoring system.
